- In TCM, relieves constraint and resolves phlegm, clears heat and eases restlessness. For mild-to-moderate depression with qi stagnation and phlegm obstruction and internal disturbance by constrained fire. Manifestations include low mood, restlessness, a sensation of a foreign body in the throat, chest or epigastric fullness, poor appetite, frequent sighing, insomnia and excessive dreaming, dizziness and tinnitus, a bitter taste and dry throat, constipation, and a red tongue with a greasy coating and a wiry-slippery pulse.
